24 Aug 2011So you're interested in customizing your darts with some great dart flights? Well, you're at the right address if you're looking for information about the whole process.
First things first, there are a couple of reasons why you would want to purchase some dart flights. These reasons can vary a lot depending on the player, an recreational player or a professional.
Both types of players will be looking to buy dart flights if theirs are broken or damaged. It's important not to play with damaged dart flights because the flight is largely responsible for the trajectory of how your dart will fly. Flights often come in packs and are quite inexpensive. So there's absolutely no reason why you should play with damaged flights. In fact, did you know that many professional players replace their flights multiple times each night? This is because they often throw darts near each other which means the flights will connect with each other and therefor have an increased chance of getting damaged.
Besides this major reason, players also choose to replace theirs with customized dart flights. Perhaps they want to support a team or a country so they install some flights with flags or team logos. It's even possible to have your own photograph printed on dart flights so you're throwing around your own head (so to speak). There are some specialized printer services out there who should be able to print your custom dart flights.
Replacing dart flights is an easy thing to do. All you have to do is pull out the damaged flight and insert your new one. Before inserting a dart flight, pop it open so the fletchings are perpendicular (imagine lines around to dart flight to form a square), or close to it. While inserting it, make sure each fletching is inserted into its own slot. And there you go, a dart with a brand new flight.
It's also possible that you're using darts where you have to slide the dart flight into an opening. Instead of opening up the fletchings and connecting the flight, you have to take a slightly different approach. Start by removing the damaged flight and open up the new flight so they're perpendicular again. This is just to get it relaxed into that state because now you will have to take two fletchings and push them through the opening of the dart. Once that's done, make sure the flight is "squared up" (is that an actual term) again.
Now that you have replaced all the dart flights, you're ready for some darting fun!
There are tons of various dart flight shapes and sizes and they can come in different textures as well. As mentioned before, the trajectory of your dart can change if your flight becomes damaged. But the trajectory as a whole will change depending on what kind of dart flight you use. So it's imperative that you get used to a certain type of flight. This becomes increasingly true if you're enrolling into darts competitions and championships. So if you're replacing the dart flights the night before a big game, make sure you know how that type of flight will react to your throw. Some flights will require a harder throw than others.
This was just a quick overview. More articles will appear on the site over time so if you're interested in darts, improving your game at all and choosing dart flights, keep tabs on this site for new posts.
Hopefully this was interesting and useful to you. Good luck with the darts and have fun!
